Announcing Art in Autumn’s 10-Year Anniversary Judge John Cram
Art in Autumn is pleased to announce our 10-year anniversary Judge for our 2016 festival will be John Cram, a regional entrepreneur of the arts. John was our very first judge for Art in Autumn in 2007, has been a great supporter of our festival and we have enthusiastically invited him back for our 10-year anniversary.
John Cram is a hero in the regional arts community as well as a major businessman and entrepreneur in Asheville’s renaissance. Owner of New Morning Gallery, Blue Spiral, Bellagio clothing stores and the Fine Arts Theater in downtown Ashevillle, John has a keen eye for art that inspires everyday life.
John moved to Asheville in the 70’s when the downtown was largely vacant and Biltmore Village was just beginning to see renovations and businesses move into older buildings. He bought a space where he would begin New Morning Gallery, a gallery where North Carolina fine artists could sell their work. The New Morning Gallery quickly became a destination gallery and expanded into a clothing store, Bellagio Art to Wear. In the 1990’s when Downtown Asheville was beginning to really hop he founded the Blue Spiral and soon after purchased the Fine Arts Theater. Finally, he expanded his Bellagio store into a second downtown location, Bellagio Everyday.
In 2013 John was awarded the North Carolina Award for Fine Arts and has been given the designation of a “Downtown Hero” by the Asheville Downtown Association along with numerous other local awards for his work in the business community and supporting conservation.
We are thrilled to have John as a part of Art in Autumn 2016!
